Because wool possesses natural self-cleaning and odour-resistant properties, it generally requires less frequent washing than synthetic alternatives. Alchemy has several Merino options - some are machine-washable, while others are strictly hand-wash only.

To get the best out of your wool, we recommend the following:

Air it Out:
• Instead of washing after every wear, give your garment a gentle shake and hang it in a well-ventilated room or outside in the fresh air.

Washing:
• Merino next-to-skin layers (lightweight, ‘baselayers’, everyday wear) can be machine washed on a 30°C cycle and air dried. They can be worn 2 to 3 times before requiring a wash. To avoid hanger indents and peg marks, lay flat on a towel over a drying rack.
• Take care with fine merino against zips and other sharp objects to avoid snagging. Consider using a garment wash bag.
• Some of our merino requires a cold handwash only and not often (e.g. 12GG brushed merino). For other wool knitwear, when laundering is required, use a wool-approved mild detergent and a cold, gentle machine cycle (maximum 30°C)
• Don’t use fabric softener, bleach or stain removal products.

Drying:
• Never tumble dry wool. Lay the garment completely flat on a towel over a drying rack to prevent stretching and warping.

Pilling:
• Light pilling is a natural characteristic of premium wool fibres. Gently remove them using a dedicated wool fabric comb.

● Never tumble dry wool. Lay the garment completely flat on a towel over a drying rack to prevent stretching and warping.

Don't:
● use fabric softener, bleach, or stain removal products. Never tumble dry and don’t soak.

Our down garments utilise Certified RDS (Responsible Down Standard) down for superior warmth-to-weight performance and ethical sourcing.

Washing:
● Wash sparingly.
● Because down is not worn directly against the skin, it does not need regular washing. An airing (or spot clean for marks) is usually sufficient, especially for garments like the Hooded Down Parka. Sponge off marks with water and for stubborn marks use a drop of very mild detergent. Do not rub, gently soak. Rinse well.
● If a deeper clean is required, use a front-loading washing machine on a cold gently/ delicate cycle with a specialist down wash. Ensure a gentle double rinse cycle to entirely remove soap residues.
Handling: Wet down is heavy. Carefully support the entire weight of the wet jacket when removing it from the machine to avoid tearing internal fabric baffles or seams.

Drying: Tumble dry on low heat with 2–3 clean tennis balls or dryer balls. This is essential to break up wet down clumps and restore the garment's insulation loft. You may need to run multiple cycles and manually pull apart stubborn clumps of down during the drying process.

Prep:
● Empty all pockets, close all zippers, and securely fasten all Velcro tabs.

Washing:
● Wash sparingly. Spot cleaning with a damp sponge and water is usually enough. If a deeper clean is required, use a very mild liquid detergent (avoid powder or fabric softeners). Wash on a gentle cycle.

Drying:
● Line dry or lay flat in the shade.

DWR Reactivation:
● If the garment care label permits, tumble-drying on a low heat setting can help reactivate the durable water repellent (DWR) coating.

Pro Tip:
● To fully restore water repellency over time, we recommend reapplying an approved tech-wash spray, such as Nikwax.

Provides a highly versatile, weather-resistant aesthetic that develops a beautiful, unique patina over time.

Do Not:
● machine wash, dry clean, or use detergents. These can strip the wax coating.

Clean:
● Allow mud or dirt to dry, then brush it off. For surface stains, wipe gently with a clean cloth and cold water.

Re-Wax:
● High-wear areas may dry out over time. Periodically reapply a specialist garment wax to restore water resistance and enrich the textile’s deep texture.

Our Selvedge Denim does not need regular washing. Using white vinegar is a natural, eco-friendly way to lock in indigo dye, prevent excessive fading, soften stiff fabric and eliminate odours without harsh chemicals. Know that this is not necessary! You can wear them in, taking care of white furniture and white tees against the fabric.

How to Perform a Cold-Water Vinegar Soak:
1. Prep: Turn your jeans completely inside out.
2. Mix: Fill a bathtub or large basin with cold water. Mix in 1 cup of white vinegar. (Optional: Add 1 cup of sea salt to further help lock the dye).
3. Soak: Submerge the denim entirely and let sit for 1 to several hours.
4. Rinse & Dry: Rinse thoroughly with clean cold water. Hang or lay flat to dry in the shade. (Don't worry—the vinegar smell completely vanishes once the fabric dries).

Note: Always avoid hot water to prevent shrinkage, hand-wash instead of machine-washing when possible, and only perform this soak during initial wears or when the fabric is exceptionally stiff.

Engineered for high moisture absorbency, rapid drying and anti-snag durability.

Washing:
● Warm machine wash on a standard cycle with standard mild detergent.

Drying:
● Line dry. These fabrics are inherently quick-drying, and air-drying preserves their built-in UV-blocking and shape recovery properties.
